Precision Marine Engineering Since 1912

For over a century, DH Porter & Company has set the standard in marine propulsion manufacturing, trusted by boatbuilders, shipwrights, and commercial operators across Australia.

ABOUT US

Since 1912, DH Porter & Company has proudly served Australia’s marine industry as a specialist in the manufacture, supply, and repair of precision marine propulsion equipment.

We are an Australian-owned and operated business with over a century of experience supporting commercial operators, defence and government agencies, boat builders, and private vessel owners - locally, interstate, and internationally. Our long-standing reputation is built on a commitment to craftsmanship, reliability, and engineering excellence.

From our workshop in North Parramatta, we manufacture and supply a wide range of propulsion and stern gear components, including:

  • Propellers
  • Shafts
  • Couplings
  • Rudders
  • Skegs
  • Bearings
  • Traditional stern gear assemblies

All components are produced in-house to precise specifications using high-performance materials and marine-grade alloys. With a blend of traditional techniques and modern CNC capabilities, we deliver consistent quality across both standard and custom jobs - whether working from a sample, technical drawing, or legacy pattern.

A Legacy of Marine Engineering

Our team’s collective experience spans generations, and many of our patterns and processes reflect deep knowledge of Australia's marine heritage. We continue to support iconic boat builders and shipwrights across the region and are proud to be trusted by respected names such as:

  • Buizen Yachts
  • Bluewater Cruising Yachts
  • Palm Beach Motor Yachts
  • Sydney Ports Corporation
  • Captain Cook Cruises

We’ve also been privileged to support independent projects, including the running gear for Bella - a vessel built for Tetsuya Wakuda by the master craftsmen at the Wooden Boat Centre in Tasmania.

Precision, Backed by Technology

While our foundation is rooted in skilled hands-on engineering, we continue to invest in precision technology to meet evolving demands. Our facility includes a Mori Seiki CNC lathe for critical turning applications and the latest Prop Scan E4 diagnostic software for accurate propeller inspection, analysis, and optimisation.

This combination of experience, care, and capability ensures that the components we produce are engineered to perform and built to last.
